The Politics Of Exclusion

Demosthenes has an interesting piece on why the majority of Americans feel disconnected from politics. It’s an interesting issue to address for a number of reasons, as declining political participation is detrimental to democracy itself. I also tend to agree that paradoxically the decline of the party system has led to a decline in the rates of political participation. Contrary to those who want to limit party influence, parties are often the primary way in which people get involved in politics. The continuing efforts to weaken party activities may only further fuel the decline in political activity in the United States.
