Everything Old Is New Again

The New York Times digs into the past for inspiration for a new World Trade Center. I like the general idea of building something with a connection to past architecture (there goes the Burkean conservative in me!), but this building just looks a bit too much like something from a Buck Rogers movie.

Personally, I think an Art Deco skyscraper similar to the Empire State Building would be a great way of connecting New York’s past with it’s future as well as providing a more aethetically impressive symbol for Lower Manhattan. Still, as far as ideas for a new WTC go, the Gaudi design is hardly the worst one I’ve seen.
