The latest Gallup poll shows increasing support for President Bush’s ultimatum to Iraq. (Not surprising for what is tantamount to announcement to war.)
Part of the reason that there was only a slim majority supporting war on Iraq previously is because of all the diplomatic wrangling. By supporting diplomatic action, rightly or wrongly, it send the message that a diplomatic solution was possible. However, with the President’s statement, it is clear that such avenues have been closed by the intransigence of Saddam Hussein as well as French obstructionism.
However, the polls aren’t what is truly important in all of this. What matters is the safety of all those charged with defending the US in Iraq.
