Yasser Arafat is attempting to cling to power by sidelining Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas.
Arafat is a typical kleptocrat who cares little for his own people. The only thing that Arafat cares about is maintaining his own personal power. Anyone who might interfere with Arafat’s embezzlement and support of terror is a non-starter with the Palestinian "leader". Tyrants are not known to share power.
Arafat has consistantly shown that he’s willing to sacrifice the Palestinian people and the peace process if it benefits his own political power. To think that he would volutarily accept a Palestinian government that restrains his greed and support of terrorism is a naive assumption. The only way the peace process can move forward is without Yasser Arafat.
