Book Report

I’ve been reading Fareed Zakaria’s new book The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad and it is utterly fascinating. Zakaria not only nails the point that democracy cannot function without a functioning but limited state, but also makes the point that America’s disillusionment with politics is caused by the overdemocratization of American politics. It’s a thesis that certainly controversial, but Zakaria’s case is very well put together. I’ll have more on this when I’m finished, but meanwhile this book is one that anyone interested in political science should pick up.

  1. Zakaria, like Thomas Friedman, is always right. 🙂

I’ll have to pick up his book.
