Jay Nordlinger in The Corner points out this disgusting cartoon from Don Wright of The Palm Beach Post.
If a conservative cartoonist drew something this vile, they’d be accused of racism, Nazism, and generally fed to the wolves. This kind of sick throwback to the age of minstrel shows is an insult to Justice Thomas and an example of how the party of supposed racial tolerance is perfectly willing to embrace the most disgusting racial stereotypes of the past to advance their radical agenda.
Didn’t you once say something about, what was it, Godwin’s law? “First one to mention Nazis loses?”
Actually, Godwin’s Law only applies to someone being called a Nazi, not merely referencing them. See here for more on the background of Godwin’s Law.
Fascinating article – did you read it? I’m not sure either of us are using Godwin’s law properly.
“Six Degrees of Godwin” – very funny. 🙂
Godwin’s law should also apply to the terms “marxists” and “Communists”, which conservatives sling around immediately after their liberal or moderate debate opponent says something they can’t legitimately refute….often times before.
Ah yes, the purely ceremonial racial tolerance of the right. Rightist tolerance means race may not be noticed in any way.
Besides, the cartoon isn’t racist, just pointing out that Thomas is Scalia’s puppet. (Widely regarded to be the case in some circles).
"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
– Rev. Martin L. King, Jr, August 28, 1963
It appears that we "rightists" are in good company then.
I think it’s the “Fat Albert and the Gang” patois coming out of Clarence’s mouth that Jay objects to, and finds racist. Personally I find I agree.
