Come on, Nicholas, no celebrations. The cost of one House seat was the life of a motorcyclist that just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Janklow screwed up, failed to accept responsibility, and will now be punished according to the laws of the State of South Dakota and the United States of America.
Applaud the fact that the system seems to have worked if you must, but let’s not celebrate the ruin of at least two lives.
I know, it’s wrong of me to celebrate this- but there are an awful lot of people gloating about this today. Hell, I don’t even think Janklow needs to be sent off to the big house… revoking his driver’s liscense and voting privledges for life seems punishment enough.
Yet, there is always something perversely enjoyable about watching the mighty being felled…
Schadenfreud has a tendency to come back to haunt a person. Considering the plethora of celebrations that have happened at the expense of disgraced right-wingers this year, I’m just worried about karma. Unless this is the conservative movement receiving karma from the Clinton impeachment. Or the 2000 election. Or the war.
Well, as far as disgraced right-wingers go, I don’t think Janklow counts in the karma bank. Quite a few of his own right-wingers aren’t exactly big fans of his, and popular opinion has turned so dramatically against Janklow that it seems South Dakota is waking up and smelling the coffee. Does this mean the state is going to turn Democratic, or vote against Bush? Hell no. But it’s likely Daschle won’t have any trouble winning a second term, and Herseth is going to be an even more potent candidate the second time around. Whatever John Thune runs for, he’s going to have a tough time of it…
Champaign? Check…
Party Hats? Check…
He’s resigning on the 20th of January- he couldn’t give me a nicer birthday present… 🙂

Nick’s party probably won’t compare to the one I’m sure Jay is planning. 🙂

Who can explain it, who can tell you why?…
