South Dakota Republican Congressman Bill Janklow has been found guilty on all counts related to the August 16th death of Hardwick, MN resident Randy Scott.
Janklow has been convicted of 2nd degree manslaughter, reckless driving, speeding and running a stop sign. The manslaughter charge can bring up to a 10 year prison term and $10,000 fine.
Janklow’s political career is over, he should resign immediately. His actions have likely cost the Republicans a seat in Congress and been an unmitigated embarassment for the state of South Dakota. As a former South Dakotan I am ashamed at Janklow’s reckless disregard for the law. A public servant should have known better, and Janklow is getting exactly what he deserved. The jury made a difficult decision, but it was the right choice to make.
