CNN has called the race for John Kerry.
Well, with 2/3rd of precincts reporting, the trends have held. Kerry is at 38%, Edwards at 33%, and Dean at 18%. Dick Gephardt is rounding out the rear of the race with only 10% – shockingly small for a campaign that should have been strong in Iowa.
Kerry’s rise is fairly easy to explain, but Edwards has certainly come to surprise the pundits. What had been a write-off earlier is now a campaign that has some new momentum behind it. What is fueling this rise will be interesting and could portend a new shift in the race.
