Another Reason I Love Apple

If you download iTunes you can use the iTunes Music Store to get copies of all the RNC 2004 speeches for free.

Another reason why I’m thinking my next computer will be an iMac.

  1. They did the same thing with the DNC speaches. They also have audio copies of the 9/11 report available and all the hearings – though I am not sure if the report is free or not.

I’ve been meaning to blog about it (and actually, I’ve blogged quite a bit about Apple, generally) but if you want to number one reason why your next computer should be an apple, this is it.

Earlier this summer I had a major system meltdown, compliments of my 2 year oldl getting on the computer and messing up some files. I was basically locked out of the computer, with no easy way to save a couple of years worth of files, including 99% of the pictures we had taken of my son. Distraught, a friend told me to take it to Apples Genius Bar – a free tech support counter in each of their stores. I did, and the Apple tech spent a couple of hours with me, first backing up all my files on DVDs so I could access them later, then reformating the drive and reinstalling all the software. Total price?? $19.99 plus tax for the purchase of a box of DVD-Rs (it would have been free if I had taken my own DVDs with me).

If I had a PC and this happened (and these things happen ALL THE TIME with PCs) I would have been stuck on dozens of different hotlines with dozens of different companies laying the blame on each other, all charging me $30/minute for tech support from either a computer or someone in Bombay I can’t understand.

Apple does it for free, and they do it in person 10 minutes from my house.

  2. OH, and BTW spoons, while you think iTunes works fine on a PC, it doesn’t have all the creature comforts of the version on an Apple. The integration of all the programs is astonishing.
