Insanely Great

Well, I’ve finally converted over to the Mac world, as my new Book has finally arrived. (And yes, pictures are forthcoming shortly. I plugged my camera in and iPhoto detected it and downloaded the photos without a hitch.)

So far, I’m liking it a ton. Mac OS X is extremely responsive, despite the fact that the iBook is the low end of the Mac line. The font smoothing is very nice, although the default font sizes are a bit too small given the 12.1″ screen. Still, one of the major reasons I bought this was to have a laptop with portability and long battery life, and the iBook has both in spades. The interface is very nice, and it doesn’t take long to get up and running. It helps that I have previous Mac experience, so I know roughly what to expect.

Once I get all the software I need, I have a feeling that I’ll be using the Mac quite often, especially when I feel the need to blog somewhere other than home. Dragging along my heavy old Compaq was a chore. With the iBook being much smaller and lighter, I’ll be able to take it with me without killing my shoulders in the process.

More observation and the obligatory photos to come…

UPDATE: It took me days of fiddling to get my XP Home laptop to connect to my desktop’s shared folder across the wireless network, and I finally gave up. The iBook politely asked for my password and showed the files right away.

Macs rule.
