Rumors are circulating that al-Qaeda leader Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi may have been killed in Operation Matador. Belmont Club has an excellent operational overview of the battle near the Iraq/Syria border in which US Marines and Iraqi forces have been besieging a terrorist camp that was involved in smuggling foreign jihadis into Iraq. We’ve been getting progressively closer towards capturing or killing al-Zarqawi, and the rumor has a source, but it’s wise to take such rumors with a large grain of salt. Still, the operations along the Iraq/Syria border will help continue to roll up the terrorist infrastructure in Iraq and will hopefully help ease the recent outbreaks of terrorist bombings in that country.
