Sen. Jesse Helms has stalled a bill that would force small webcasters to pay punitive royalties to the RIAA for streaming audio. While the bill contained royalties that would have been smaller than the RIAA’s original proposal, the bill would still have bankrupted many small webcasters.
Helms was reacting to pleas from some small webcasting firms in his state of North Carolina who would have been bankrupted by the deal.
No word on if the Democrats will accuse Helms of being in the pockets of Big Small Webcasters.
Wow… Helms actually did something decent for the first time in his life. Good for him.
