Bob Woodward of the Washington Post is reporting that US intelligence believes that Saddam Hussein was hit by US forces in the first wave of attacks while he was in a command bunker in Baghdad.
Matt Drudge also reports that there are rumors that Hussein was carried away from the bunker under medical supervision apparently badly wounded.
This jibes with reports that the Iraqi military is essentially cut off from Hussein’s leadership, and Iraq is no longer under the Hussein’s control. If these rumors prove to be true, it means that the decapitation strike of March 19th may have delivered a death blow to Saddam’s regime.
Rumor also has it that "shock and awe" may be imminent to induce further Iraqi surrenders.
